What have I been up to lately?

Welll... It's been a "year" so far...

On the “Internet Front”

April

I began compiling a list of IP addresses that were used to attempt logins on web hosts that I manage for my clients. Interestingly not all of them are “originating” from Russia or China. Quite a few of them are sourcing back to IP addresses assigned to ISPs here in the U.S.

Those IP addresses belong to ASNs assigned to major cloud providers. Naturally, being that they can be spoofed, I am also collecting a list of the URLs being requested.

I had also seen (starting after last Thanksgiving) an uptick in Anonymous Fox attacks. Steps have been made to mitigate that vector…

May

I started to also pull together the tools necessary to streamline the collation of the information I am gathering from these “visits” and setting the client firewalls to block based on the collected fingerprints.

June

Evaluating a method of automatically syncing all client firewalls to block an offender if it visits any one of the client sites…

July

Building an updated platform that will host all of the tools I use to monitor and manage the sites and their web servers. I was going to use VBox for this but I think I will be going with a non-virtual setup for now…

Oh, and I caught Covid last week. Seems someone was walking about spreading the “love”. Thanks… a lot.

About the car…

May

Well, I now have proof not all knockoff rims are a match for OEM M-Parallel (style 37) rims.

The OEM rim is on the right… not the damage to the rim lip splitting on the OEM copy

Though both suffered major damage (had to replace both), the OEM rims faired slightly better.

After a few days of intense searching and being unable to come across a pair of 18x10s, I found a pair of OEM 18x8s. Which meant going to a non-staggered setup along with the new tires.

Currently the search continues for a left strut. The car sits until one is found.

Meanwhile, Uber is cleaning my clock!

P.S.:

Note to “Recruiters”:

It’s not nice to ghost people. Please don’t waste my time calling about an opening, requesting updated resumes and ensuring a follow-up only to drop off the face of the earth. I’m sure you have other things you’d rather do than waste time. I know I do.

Thank you very much this has been a PSA – Now back to your regularly scheduled whatever…
